One of the greatest and most influential hard rock bands of all time, Guns N Roses are celebrating their 30th anniversary since their formation on March 20th 1985.

The band has achieved many milestones since its formation in 1985 but is also known for being one of the most chaotic bands ever formed with various controversies surrounding them especially when it came to frontman Axl Rose.

In 1985, Axl Rose moved to Los Angeles and joined a band called Hollywood Rose that included guitarist Saul Hudson (Slash), bassist Greg D’Angelo (Duff) and drummer Steven Adler. The group soon changed their name to Guns N Roses after signing with Geffen Records in 1986 when Stradlin left the group to pursue other opportunities in Brazil and China before returning later that year only to leave again due to artistic differences with Axl Rose who wanted more control over the band’s sound direction than Stradlin wanted. It didn’t take long for GNR’s original lineup – Axl Rose, Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Slash –

to come together; they officially formed as a band on November 6th 1987 when Slash was invited down by Duff McKagan during rehearsal sessions at Westbeach Recorders Recording Studio where they were recording demos for a new album titled Appetite For Destruction which would eventually become an international phenomenon five years later when it hit stores worldwide on July 21st 1991 but not without some bumps along the way…

GNR’s original lineup included five members – Axl Rose, Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, and Slash.

The five-member lineup of Guns N’ Roses lasted from 1985 to 1991 before they broke up in 1993. Their original lineup is often thought of as one of the most influential bands in rock history. The group released multiple platinum-selling albums during this time period including Appetite for Destruction (1987) and G N’ R Lies (1988).

However while they were together they had a tumultuous relationship with each other which resulted in multiple breakups and reunions over their career span until they finally called it quits again by 2016 when Slash left the band after 25 years being part of its lineup!

Slash was a guitarist for a band called Black Sheep.

Slash was the guitarist for Black Sheep, a punk rock band that formed in 1979. Black Sheep was one of the many bands that played at Los Angeles’ famous Whisky a Go-Go nightclub and contributed to what would become known as the “Los Angeles” or “American” punk rock scene.

Black Sheep released their debut album, Total Recall, in 1981. Their songs were featured on compilations like L.A.’s The Noise: Underground Punk & New Wave 1976-1980 (1993). Most people know Slash as the lead guitarist of Guns N Roses but Slash is also an amazing guitar player on his own – check out this video!

Duff McKagan played bass for the band 10 Minute Warning.

You might know Duff McKagan as the bassist for Guns N Roses, but he’s also a member of Velvet Revolver and Loaded. He has released two solo albums under his name: 2012’s “Tenderness” and 2016’s “Guts & Glory.”

Izzy Stradlin was the lead singer of Hollywood Rose which he founded with Axl Rose.

Izzy Stradlin was the lead singer of Hollywood Rose, a band formed by Axl Rose which became Guns N Roses. He was also the only original member to leave the band when it changed its name and moved to Los Angeles in 1985.

Steven Adler played drums for Road Crew.

Before he joined Guns N’ Roses, Adler was a member of Road Crew. The band consisted of singer Saul Hudson (aka Slash), bassist Duff McKagan and guitarist Izzy Stradlin. They played a mixture of punk rock and heavy metal.

The group also included Steven Adler’s cousin, Rob Gardner on rhythm guitar and eventually toured with Faster Pussycat as their backing band.

Adler eventually quit his job at Tower Video in Hollywood to play drums for GNR, taking over from Steven “Duff” McKagan who had been playing guitar since 1984 but decided to switch back to bass guitar when Adler joined the band.

Guns N Roses did their first show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on June 6, 1985 before they officially became a band.

  • The Troubadour is a music venue in West Hollywood, California, United States that has been open since 1972.
  • The Troubadour was opened by Elmer Valentine and Don DiLego, who leased the building that had previously been a jazz club, The Largo.
  • They booked acts like Elton John and Bob Dylan but could not get any interest from record labels so they decided to open their own label called Troubadour Records to promote local bands such as Journey and Counting Crows.

Their debut album ‘Appetite For Destruction’ is the best-selling U.S debut album of all time selling more than 30 million copies worldwide.

Appetite For Destruction is an iconic album. Not only do you have to be good to write songs like “Welcome To The Jungle”, “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, and “Paradise City”, but you also have to be able to play them on stage with the same intensity as the record. This is why Guns N Roses were one of the best live bands ever and still are today.

Guns N Roses released Appetite For Destruction on July 21st 1987 which was two years before I was born so I never got a chance see them live in concert but judging by their performance at Coachella 2018 I know it would’ve been amazing!

Songs like Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Paradise City and November Rain were amongst their most popular songs featured on their debut album.

Their first single “Welcome to the Jungle” was a big hit, peaking at number three in the Billboard Hot 100 and being certified platinum by RIAA for selling more than one million copies (1). The same year saw them winning Video of The Year Award for “Sweet Child O’ Mine” at MTV Video Music Awards (2).

They are one of the most iconic bands ever having sold over 100 million records worldwide and ranked number 10 on MTV’s Top 100 Bands of All Time list in 2010.

The group has had several line-up changes over their three decade career with original members Slash and Duff McKagan leaving in 1996 while Matt Sorum left in 1998 (although he rejoined briefly) and Steven Adler returning before his departure in 2014. They’ve released five albums during their initial lifetime: Appetite For Destruction (1987), G N R Lies (1988), Use Your Illusion I & II (1991), Chinese Democracy (2008) and World On Fire – which was released under their new name “Guns N Roses” last year on November 23rd 2016 – featuring no original members whatsoever!

In 2010, Guns N’ Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Axl Rose declined his invitation to attend the ceremony because he did not want to be reunited with former members of the band. The ceremony was in Cleveland, Ohio where I live and it was too bad that Axl Rose did not attend as I would have loved to see him perform live one more time before he retires from music permanently (or decides on another reunion tour with Slash).
