Crushed plastic beer cups sticking to the asphalt by the west gate. Humid air making everything smell like exhaust and spilled liquor. Sun dropping behind the highway overpass. Bass kicking through the concrete pillars before they even opened the stadium doors. People moving in clumps past the temporary fencing. Neon orange vests of parking attendants under the halogen lot lights. Dust kicking up near the port-a-johns. A radio playing from a pickup truck near the back of the queue. The line pushing forward in small jerks. Someone dropping a lighter on the pavement. Mud drying on boot heels near the folding tables.

It was that run of shows in the summer. They kept playing the walk-up track real loud before he came out. Red lights everywhere on stage. A lot of plaid shirts and backwards hats. You know how the crowd just screams before the first chord hits. People spilling drinks over the barrier trying to get closer. They always opened with that one loud song. Guitars getting drowned out by people singing the chorus. Everyone knew every word. It was loud. Really loud. The video screens glitching for a second during the acoustic part. People walking around looking for their section numbers. Just hours of standing and yelling those lyrics back at the stage. The heat from the pyro hitting the front rows.

The shirt feels different after a dozen washes. The cotton gets softer, loses that stiffness it had when it was folded up at the tent. The collar stretched out just a fraction after pulling it over your head so many times. The front graphic starts showing little cracks right around the edges of the letters. Sweat and sun and being shoved into a duffel bag changes the fabric. The black fades out a bit, turns kind of dark charcoal at the shoulder seams. The back print gets that rough texture where the ink sits heavy on the material. Just thin enough for dead summer heat. It smells a little like laundry soap and old smoke now.
