Steele’s deep, baritone voice, often likened to that of Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne, was a defining characteristic of Type O Negative’s sound. His lyrics explored themes of love, loss, death, and the human condition, often delivered with a sense of melancholy and despair.

Type O Negative’s debut album, “Under the Heaven,” released in 1992, introduced their signature sound and established them as a force in the gothic metal scene. The album featured songs like “Bloody Kisses” and “Black No. 1 (Dead Again),” which showcased their ability to create atmospheric and haunting music.

Their sophomore album, “Bloody Kisses,” released in 1993, solidified their status as a major act in the genre. The album’s title track, a haunting love song, became a fan favorite and helped to propel the band to mainstream success. Other notable songs from the album included “Summertime Blues” and “Christian Woman.”

Type O Negative continued to release critically acclaimed albums throughout their career, including “World Coming Down” (1996), “Origin of the Feral” (1999), and “Life Is Killing Me” (2003). Their music often featured complex arrangements, incorporating elements of classical music and industrial rock.

Despite their success, Type O Negative faced challenges throughout their career. Steele struggled with personal demons, including addiction and depression, which often affected the band’s touring and recording schedules. In 2010, Steele passed away, leaving a void in the gothic metal community.

Type O Negative’s legacy lives on through their music, which continues to inspire new generations of fans.
